10 Reasons Your LG Freezer Is Not Freezing Ice Cream!

Ice cream’s recommended serving temperature range is between  -5°F and 0°F. If your LG freezer’s temperature is not cold enough, then it won’t be able to freeze your ice cream. 

Sometimes your freezer’s inability to freeze Ice cream can be a defect from one or more of your freezer’s essential components.

What Prevents Ice Cream From Freezing Solid In an LG Freezer? 

The fault is not always from your freezer when it can’t solidify ice cream. What prevents ice cream from freezing solid in the freezer most times is alcohol.

Alcohol does not freeze; as a result, a small amount of alcohol can be added to ice cream to prevent it from freezing too solid. 

Also, the churning process gives the ice cream a more significant substance than just frozen water. That is most likely why ice cream does not emerge from the freezer as ice-hard.

Cream and sugar are the two primary ingredients of ice cream, and both do not freeze hard.

Some reasons why your freezer won’t freeze ice cream are:

#1. Not Using the Recommended Temperature

 Ice cream is less dense than other frozen items. Melting ice cream typically indicates that your freezer is experiencing a minor temperature issue.

Not using the recommended temperature can affect your ice cream negatively. 

For ice cream to properly freeze, a freezer must be kept at or below 15 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest temperature setting on a dial or slider control should be at the highest number.

When the freezer’s temperature is altered, it may take up to 24 hours for the freezer to stabilize.

#2. Obstructed Freezer Vents

Air must be allowed to circulate in the freezer for it to function correctly; this cannot happen if the vents are obstructed.

Therefore, to prevent your ice cream from melting, rearrange your freezer, discard any forgotten food that has now developed freezer burn, and defrost any ice accumulated around the vents.  

#3. Emptiness 

 If all that’s in your freezer is ice cream and a few other things, you might need to add some extra food to keep it at the right temperature.

Most freezer manufacturers advise maintaining your freezer 70 to 85% complete to maintain a constant temperature and provide adequate airflow. 

Less cold air escapes and less warm air enters a freezer when it is between 70 and 85% filled.

Maintaining a more cold environment is also made more accessible by adding frozen foods to the freezer. 

#4. Your Freezers Location 

The position of your freezer may be to blame for the melting ice cream. The weather can affect freezers in the basement, sheds, barns, car parks, etc.

Most freezer producers recommend that the outside temperature not exceed 110 degrees or below 55 degrees.

Your ice cream problem may be resolved by shifting the freezer or adding some ventilation if the outside temperature is too high or too low.

#5. An Opening Or Tear In the Freezer’s Door Seal 

The door seal on the freezer keeps warm air outside and cold air within. As a result, the freezer may have trouble maintaining a steady, mild temperature if there is even a tiny tear in the door seal.

Replacement of the door seal on your freezer will enhance its functionality if it has gaps, tears, or cracks that prevent it from sealing tightly. 

One way to test your door seal is to try putting a dollar note or a piece of paper in the door seal. If you can easily remove the paper or the dollar note, your seal needs to be replaced.

#6. Limited Air Flow Due to Ice Build Up 

 In the same way that having too many things in the freezer obstructs the airflow, too much ice buildup in the freezer will hinder the vents and evaporator coils from operating as intended.

 Ice buildup in the freezer must be removed to function correctly. If your freezer does not have an auto-defrost feature, you must empty it of all its contents and turn off the electricity for 8 to 12 hours so the freezer can defrost. 

#7. Dirty Condenser Coils

Your freezer is kept cold by condenser coils found at the bottom or back of the refrigerator.

However, the condenser coils can accumulate dust and dirt over time, making them overheat and make it difficult for them to maintain an ideal freezer temperature. 

Depending on the model, condenser coils are either at the back or beneath your refrigerator. An under-the-fridge cleaning brush included in a condenser coil cleaning kit can be used to clean the coils if they are underneath.

Coils in the back of the refrigerator can be cleaned using a brush or vacuum attachment by taking off the rear access panel.

#8. Faulty Evaporator Fan

A faulty evaporator fan can not only make your Ice cream melt; it can produce loud and disturbing noises.

Air is drawn across the evaporator coils by the evaporator fan to remove heat from the atmosphere.

As a result, your freezer’s temperature will increase, and your ice cream will melt if the evaporator fan or motor is broken.

Take items out of the freezer and remove the panel covering the evaporator fan to ensure it’s not broken and that the motor is operating.

You can also examine the evaporator fan to see if it is functioning well with a multimeter. 

#9. A Faulty Start Relay

The compressor of the refrigerator is connected to the start relay. Powering the compressor is the purpose of the start relay.

Therefore, the compressor may not work if the start relay is broken, resulting in the freezer temperature being ineffective in freezing your ice cream. 

If you have experience with refrigerator repairs, you can remove the start relay and test it with a multimeter to see if it needs to be replaced.

But If you’re unsure, it’s better to leave the problem to an experienced person.  

#10. A Faulty Compressor 

A broken compressor is the most likely reason your freezer isn’t cooling down enough.

The compressor is the most crucial component of the refrigerator since it moves gas throughout the system to maintain the appropriate temperature for everything. If your compressor fails to work, the entire freezer has failed. 

If you notice that your compressor is operating noisier than expected or not functioning at all, The best course of action is to call a qualified technician.

Fixing a compressor is risky and challenging; as such, it is not advisable to work on it by yourself if you have no experience.  

 If the reasons above don’t work, you need your freezer replaced.

How to Fix LG Freezing if it Won’t Freeze Ice Cream?

Your LG freezer can sometimes stop freezing Ice cream because of the buildup of ice on the evaporator coils.

This can often happen when the refrigerator has been moved to a different position. 

Your LG freezer’s inability to freeze Ice cream can result from a defrost system malfunctioning in the freezer.

When this problem occurs, the fan turns on and off repeatedly without an accurate temperature reading. 

All you have to do to solve this problem is clean the condenser coils, ensure the motor’s blades are spinning, and lower the thermostat until it clicks on. 

How Do You Reset The Freezer On an LG Refrigerator?

Resetting the freezer on an LG refrigerator is not a difficult task. You can use the owner’s manual to get this done if you don’t know how to do it.

If you have reset buttons on your refrigerator, you must hold the buttons for Ice Plus and Refrigerator for five seconds.

The control panel will sound after five seconds, and the heating setting will show Demo, indicating that the Demo mode has been turned off.

You can also reset your LG refrigerator if you disconnect the refrigerator or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds. Within 24 hours, the unit will stabilize and begin cooling if you turn it back on. 


If your LG freezer stops freezing Ice cream, it can be that you are not using the recommended temperature or the air Vents are obstructed.

Most times, you have to clean the freezer’s condenser coils because dirty Condenser coils can lead to a freezer malfunction.
