Toasters are great. Who doesn’t love a bite of hot crispy bread with jam? But being adventurous beings, we tend to touch what we use. So, while toasting bread, you may wonder whether it’s safe to touch the toaster.
The outer sides of the toaster oven usually get hot when the oven is being used. On the other hand, the bottom part of the exterior of the toaster oven does not get hot, so if you’re using a toaster oven and attempt putting your hand on the exterior, you will find that it is warm to the touch.
Do All Toaster Ovens Get Hot On The Outside?
Generally, most toaster ovens heat up outside as well. Since the toaster ovens are not insulated, this is not a surprise. Usually, the handle, the door, the sides, and the top can get quite hot. And while that is not unexpected, it can be unsafe, especially for children.
However, some toaster ovens stay cool outside, though not as cool as when they’re not being used. It’s unlikely that any toaster oven will remain completely cool on the outside. Expectedly it will become slightly warmer to the touch.
Still, not all will become very hot. Some ovens that have quality coating can prevent heat inside from coming to the outside. So, you can keep something on the top and touch the sides of the toaster oven without fear of burning anyone or anything.
So not all toaster ovens get hot on the outside. On the other hand, if you still own a toaster oven that gets very hot while in use, you need to take some measures to ensure safety.
If the oven is on the countertop, make enough room, so you don’t accidentally touch it while trying to reach for something else. You can remove other items from the countertop and ensure the oven is not close to anything else.
Also, you should wear gloves while taking out food from the oven. Put on the gloves before you open the door, so you don’t get burned.

Where Can I Keep My Toaster Oven?
You can keep your toaster oven in a cabinet, a countertop, and your wall shelf. Nonetheless, it’s best to use it only on the countertop.
Of course, we have already established that toaster ovens can get quite hot. Even though some toaster ovens remain cool to the touch, you should still be careful about where you keep your oven, especially if you have children who are likely to hurt themselves or if you still own a toaster oven that heats up on the outside.
So, there are safe places where you can keep your toaster oven, so you don’t have any kitchen accidents. One very important thing about the location of your toaster oven is that it should be able to get enough ventilation when it is in use because it will emit a lot of heat.
So, you can place the toaster oven in a cabinet. Make sure the cabinet is spacy and airy because there won’t be sufficient ventilation if it is too tight. Also, the cabinet shouldn’t be covered on every side to avoid damaging the oven. And since the oven is compact, you can move it to the countertop when you want to use it.
If there is room on the countertop, you can keep the toaster oven on it. However, make sure it’s not too close to other objects and not too close to the sink either; we don’t want water splashing all over the oven.
You can also put the oven on the wall shelf if you have one. Not only is it accessible, but wall-shelves free up space on the countertop and are also quite airy. What’s more? The kids and pets can hardly get to them, which will ensure their safety, at least from the toaster oven.
Also, remember not to use your toaster oven in a cabinet; that should only be for storage. If you want to use it, you can move it to the countertop for safety.
Conclusion
Toaster ovens usually get hot on the outside, especially if they stay on for long periods. However, not all toaster ovens get so hot! Some remain cool on the exterior even after long uses. Still, you have to keep your toaster oven in a safe place to avoid any accidents.
